Sustainable Development Timeline
In 1962 Silent Spring was published, a book many consider a turning point in our understanding of the interconnections between the environment, economy and social well-being. In the decades that have followed, many milestones have marked the journey toward sustainable development.
The Sustainable Development Timeline has been prepared by the International Institute for Sustainable Development as part of the Sustainable Development Communications Network (SDCN).
The third edition of the SD Timeline is available as a poster, funded by Environment Canada. It has been updated to 2002 as one of IISD's contributions to the World Summit on Sustainable Development.
